Hittin' the open road!

Well, we made it! We're hitting the road, packed and with ALL the kids! Everyone got haircuts last night, we cleaned the house all morning, changed sheets, and finished the last load of dirty laundry. There's nothing like coming home to a clean house after vacation. That is... until we drag everything back into the house that we managed to pack into the van and camper. I was actually up at midnight thinking about how horrid it will be to unpack everything and put it away when we're back. And the laundry... oh, the laundry... Yuk. Ahhh, well, it's not time for worrying about that now... We're off and running on a once-(or twice)-in-a-lifetime adventure!

Nathan is the worry of the trip. He's such a busy boy and hasn't traveled well since birth. Paul was super concerned about not having him cry and whine behind his seat the whole trip... gee, I just can't understand why... He gave me a job to accumulate ideas and things to make him a happy boy. One of the ideas we read about is a "lap tray". It hooks onto his car seat and has ridges on the sides to keep his toys and cheerios from dropping. It's a revelation! (and it's only taken us 6 kids to figure it out)
How does everyone see two 7 inch tv's in a 12 passenger van?? If you look close, you can see our improvised tv stand. Yes, that's right. A cut-up cardboard box, some duct tape, and safety pins all strapped into a seatbelt... makes a fine dvd holder.
On-the-road-homeschooling Lesson Number One... Always keep duct tape and safety pins on hand.
